Steps To Deal With Being Stuck In A Job You Hate. Part One. Change Your Outlook. Plan For Something Better.

BAM! Be A Man. Man On Bicycle In The Rain.

Take The Steps To Change This

Gentlemen! The truth is that we all cannot have a job that we truly love or even like! Most of us are stuck in jobs that we either feel mostly indifferent to or we actually hate. This is not a good way to go through our life since most of us spend the a majority of our waking hours at work and getting to and from work

Things Can And Will Change

Even if you have a job that suits you and that you love or at least like, there will be good days and bad days. Some thing that you love about your job today can quickly and with no advanced warning change tomorrow. The people that we work with can change. Company policies and procedures can change. The company can move, be merged with another company or just close down. You need to be prepared, as much as possible, for any and all circumstances.

Most of the things that could happen that would negatively affect your work experience are out of your control. The only thing that you can do is to be aware of the things that you do have control over. There are two main things that you should do to take some of the stress away from being in a job you hate and either way, to be ready for a change that happens that is out of your control. Make no mistake about it, change is inevitable as nothing lasts forever.

The Two Steps You Need To Take To Improve Your Current Job Situation

1. Learn To Love Your Job Regardless.
2. Be Ready With Your Plan B.
  • Loving your job regardless can be extremely helpful for you to reduce some stress and tension from life.
  • Having your Plan B in place will also take a lot of pressure off the suffering through a less than fulfilling job.

As has been already said, not everyone of us are fortunate enough to have a job to our liking. We are living in fiercely competitive times. The competition for jobs In today’s job market is tight and just being qualified for a particular job may not be enough. With the quantity of prospective job applicants available to employers, it seems that they have the “pick of the litter”. Since we all cannot be the selected candidate for a highly sought after job, most of us will have to contend with jobs that may or may not be of our liking.

If You Can’t Be With The Job You Love…

The job that you end up with may not totally agree with you or suit you. It may be the case that you are stuck in a boring, routine and mildly if at all, rewarding job. It could be that your current job is within your skill and field of study or experience, but you have to start in an entry level position. Right now, you are not getting the chance to work at your full potential . We hear you.

You deserve something better. Don’t we all! If this is the case, then you need to be making all the necessary efforts to get the perfect job in your dream company or somewhere else. We will come back to this idea. The question is, what do you do in the meantime? Simple, “love the job you’re with”. And yes, it is a choice that you can make..

“Love the job I’m with? Are you kidding? My job sucks. The people that I work with are a bunch of idiots and the boss is a total moron!”

We get it. We know. We have been there too. We got through it and you can too. But, look, consider this: No matter how bad, boring, frustrating, and unrewarding your present job is, one thing is certain – you’ll go nowhere by bitching and complaining about it! Your job sucks. We really do get it. However, the question for you then is, So what are you going to do about it?

Start With Changing Your Perspective

For right now, the job that you have is the only job that you got and your job is the main source of your income. Income means money. Your bread and butter comes from the money you earn from your job. You pay your monthly bills, you are able to spend time with friends and you are able to go out on dates with the money that you earn from this job.

Having a job right now allows you to have a something of a life right now. Living under a bridge should not be the desire for any man. So maybe you may not have to love your job at this exact moment, but you had better learn to at least, respect it.

Respect Yourself

Okay, so starting with some respect for your job, there are things that we can do to make the job a bit more interesting. One thing that you can do is to start thinking like a boss. Take ownership for the tasks that you do for your job. Start with being a model employee. Be on time. Dress appropriately – wear clean, unwrinkled clothes. Be well-groomed etc. If you want to be treated with respect, you have to earn respect by respecting your job, your boss and your co-workers, and most importantly, you must respect yourself.

Add to your mindset change by looking at your job as a game or puzzle. Ask yourself questions like, “If I was in charge, how can this job be done in a better way?” and “How can productivity be improved?” Spend some time thinking over these two questions and when you will come up with some answers, try them out. See if you can make a difference.

When you do see changes for the better being made, make notes of what you did and what the outcomes were. You will use this information in Part 2 of this article. For the time being, one sure-fire way to make your job more interesting, regardless of how boring it may be, is to think like a boss and try to find ways of doing the job a bit better.

Why Should You Bother?

The main reason that you should bother is that by caring about your job just may be enough to keep you from getting fired. And no matter how bad a job may be, getting fired is not the way to get out of a crappy job. Not by a long-shot. There is a way. But not yet.

Here are few benefits which you’ll get by respecting (loving?) and taking ownership for your job:

  • You will feel better about yourself and better respect yourself
  • Your productivity and performance should increase.
  • Your image in the eyes of your boss should improve.
  • You should feel less tired and exhausted from the stress at the end of the day.
  • Your overall relationship with your colleagues should improve.
  • You should be able to finish your work quickly if you do it with a sense of ownership.
Conclusion

We all cannot be in jobs that we love. Being in a job we hate will take its toll on our wellbeing. One way to lessen the stress of being stuck in a bad job is to change your perspective on it and to at least to start treating the job with respect.
